General Info Sericulture Apiculture

The Laboratory of Sericulture & Apiculture was established in 1920 and is one of the earliest units of Agricultural University of Athens. The main duty and aim of the Lab is teaching of Sericultural and Apicultural Science, the professional training of scientific members and research-study of relevant issues. In 1952 Laboratory of Sericulture & Apiculture was renamed in Laboratory of Sericulture & Silk Industry and in 2001 the initial name is restored. It is housed in Isaakidis building and consists of laboratories for teaching and research and administration rooms.

Additional research and educational work is provided in mulberry plantation with a total of 0.5 hectares (650 trees and 25 different varieties) and in the two apiaries with a total of 50 colonies. In the Laboratory there are honey extracting and packing equipment, silkworm rearing unit and cocoon reeling equipment.
