Associate Prof Elisavet K. Chatzivassiliou graduated from the Faculty of Agriculture of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Major in Plant Production).

She holds a Ph.D. in Plant Pathology-Virology (2000) (thesis title: Factors affecting transmission of Tomato spotted wilt tospovirus (TSWV) by Thrips tabaci Lindeman (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) and a Master of Science in Plant Protection (1996) (thesis title: Characterization of Tospoviruses in Greece) from the Faculty of Agriculture of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

She worked as an assistant researcher in several research projects (1995-2001) or post-doctoral researcher (project title: Exploration of the role of Thrips tabaci biotypes in the transmission of Tomato spotted wilt virus, funded by the Greek Scholarships Foundation) in the Plant Pathology Laboratory, Department of Agriculture, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

She was employed as an inspector of the certification service at the Center for the Certification of Propagative Material of Thessaloniki (Ministry of Agriculture) (2001-2004), and as a Lecturer on Plant Pathology at the Department of Agricultural Development, Democritus University of Thrace (2004-2010). At the Department of Crop Science of the Agricultural University of Athens, she served as an Assistant Professor (2010 to 2018), and from 2019 on, she serves as an Associate Professor of Plant Pathology-Virology.

From June 2015 to May 2018, she was a member the Plant Health Panel of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA, PLH panel). At present, she is a member of Virus Working Group (since June 2018) and a member of the High risk plants working group (since September 2019) of the PLH panel of EFSA.

She has participated in 17 international and 24 national congresses.

She is a member of several scientific committees and associations.

She has participated in competitive European (2) and national projects (1) and she has served as a reviewer in peered reviewed scientific journals.
