Profile

Prof. Eleni Tsantili; Previously, Head of the Section of Pomology and Viticulture laboratories, Currently Director of Lab. of omology, Department of Crop Science, Agricultural University of Athens (AUA). Born in Athens, BSc (AUA); PhD (Wye College, University of London, UK) in Postharvest Physiology and Technology of Fruits with a 3-year studentship.  In 2005, she was on sabbatical at the Department of Horticulture, Cornell University, USA.

Her particular interests include:  Effects of growth regulators on tree and fruit physiological responses; Abiotic stress, nutritional and quality in fruit; Pre- and postharvest treatments in order to maintain the nutritional value and quality; Ripening of non-climacteric fruit. Species of current interest: Figs, olives, apricots, strawberries, cherries, kiwifruits.

She has been teaching undergraduate courses (General Pomology; Fruit Tree Cultivation (evergreen and deciduous), Postharvest Handling of Fruit and Vegetables, as well as, postgraduate courses in the area of Quality-Postharvest Handling of Fruit and Vegetables (Sensory Evaluation; Thermal Treatments; Minimally Processed; Modern Technology of Quality Determination; Design of Fruit Packing Lines etc), which also includes Seminars by invited specialist scientists. Courses are accompanied by e-classses. and an e-book 'Postharvest Handling of Fruit and Vegetables' ISBN 978-960-603-261-5, 297 pp. (as co-authored)

Research: Participant or primary investigator in 10 projects. She has one patent, co-authored chapters in books and authored/co-authored  a number of publications (SCI); Reviewer in > 30 different peer-reviewed international Journals; Supervisor of 1 postdoc, 3 PhD, 14 MSc and examiner of more than 20 PhD or MSc candidates from Greece and Abroad. Member in Editorial Board of Agricultural Science SECNA, Journal of Post-harvest Technology,  Recent Patents on Food, Nutrition & Agriculture (Bentham Science) and in a Special Issue of Foods. Member of the International Society for Horticultural Science.
