Gerassimos D. ARAPIS (born in 1954 at Piraeus, married, with two children) is Professor of Ecotoxicology and Director of the Laboratory of Ecology and Environmental Sciences at the Agricultural University of Athens. One of the main activities of the Laboratory is the study of the impacts on the environment from agricultural activities. Prof. G. Arapis is a member of the Management Committee of Parnassus Natural Reserve (Central Greece) and a member of the Greek National Council of Waters Management. During the last decade he was member of the Management Committee of the European Environmental Bureau for which he acts also as a representative in the Advisory Group “Agriculture and Environment” of the European Commission. He obtained his Diploma in Biology (National & Kapodisrian University of Athens, Greece), his Ph.D. in Ecotoxicology (University of Paris 7 - France) and two Post-doctorate certificates in Radioecology (University of Gembloux - Belgium) and in Environmental Chemistry (City University of New York - USA). In the past he was scientific collaborator for the Institute of Radiological and Environmental Protection (CIEMAT, Madrid – Spain), researcher at the Nuclear Centre (C.E.N.) of Fontenay-aux-Roses (France), post-graduate fellow of the European Commission in the Nuclear Centre (CEN/SCK) of Mol (Belgium) and research assistant at the University of Paris 7 (France). Actually he is teaching various topics of Ecology and Environmental Sciences at the Agricultural University of Athens. He has more than 100 scientific works and publications.
