Course description:
1. Genetic improvement of grapevines: mutation - genetic variation in grapevines.
2. Methods of genetic improvement of grapevines (mass selection, clonal selection, hybridisation, application of biotechnology).
3. Rootstock breeding (resistance to phylloxera, downy mildew, powdery mildew and lime- induced chlorosis. Adaptability to acid soils, drought tolerance).
4. Grapevine breeding (flower types, cluster size and shape. Berry size, shape and form, colour and flavour, seedlessness).
