Course: Plant Systematics
Course description:
1. Introduction to plant systematics.
2. Levels of organisation in plant morphology (Protista-Thallophyta-Plantae).
3. Plant reproduction.
4. The concept of species. Categories of classification. Systems of classification (a historical outline) and nomenclature. The dendrogram of the organisms and divisions: Schizophyta: class I, Bacteria and class II, Cyanobacteria, Phycophyta, Mycophyta, Lichenophyta, Bryophyta, Pteridophyta. Spermatophyta: main groups, important characteristics and typical representatives of the sporophytes. Phylogenetics and systematics. Vegetative (asexual) and sexual reproduction organs. Pollination-fertilisation. Systematic classification. Most important families, genera and species of dicotyledons and monocotyledons of angiosperms.
