Course: Organic Chemistry

Course description:
1. Introduction. Nomenclature of organic chemistry. Classification of organic reactions (SN1, SN2, E1, E2).
2. Conformation of molecules - stereochemistry (enantioisomers, diastereoisomers, racemates, asymmetric syntheses). Spectroscopy (UV-vis spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy, NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry).
3. Saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons (properties and reactions of alkanes, alkenes and alkynes, Organometallic compounds).
4. Carbonyl compounds (properties and reactions of aldehydes, ketones, acids, esters and amides).
5. Lipids (glycerol derivatives, prostaglandins and prostacyclines).
6. Nitrogen-containing compounds (amines, amino acids, peptides and proteins). Purines, pyrimidines and nucleic acids. Aromatic compounds and aromaticity, electrophilic aromatic substitution.
7. Sugars (oligo- and polysaccharides).
8. Vitamins, hormones, terpenes and steroids.
